The Indianapolis Colts deal center A.Q. Shipley to the Ravens

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by joelapinski on Thursday 9 May 2013 at 6:17 pm

The Colts have dealt 26-year old center A.Q. Shipley to the Ravens for a conditional draft pick in 2014.  Shipley played in 14 games (5 starts) for the Colts in 2012, which was his first taste of the NFL.  The Colts drafted Khaled Holmes in the 4th round of last month’s NFL Draft, which is what made Shipley expendable.  The Colts shouldn’t miss Shipley too much moving forward.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire ILB Kelvin Sheppard from the Bills

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by joelapinski on Monday 29 April 2013 at 6:19 pm

The Colts have acquired 25-year old inside linebacker Kelvin Sheppard from the Buffalo Bills for 24-year old OLB Jerry Hughes.  Sheppard played in all 16 games for the Bills last year and he had 80 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 32 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 150 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery and 2 passes defensed.  Hughes was a disappointment in his time with the Colts.  He played in 16 games for the Colts last year and he had 41 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  Hughes played in 40 games in his three years with the Colts and he had 62 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  This was a good deal for the Bills as Sheppard gives them another solid inside linebacker for 2013 and down the road.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire fullback Stanley Havili from the Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by joelapinski on Thursday 28 March 2013 at 9:31 pm

The Colts have acquired 25-year old fullback Stanley Havili from the Philadelphia Eagles for 25-year old DE Clifton Geathers.  Havili played in 15 games as a rookie for the Colts last year in which he carried the ball 6 times for 22 yards (3.7 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 43 yards (6.1 avg).  He also returned 2 kickoffs for 18 yards (9.0 avg) and he had 7 tackles.  Geathers played in 8 games for the Colts last year and he had 5 tackles and 1 sack.  Havili should help the Colts both offensively and on special teams in 2013, so I like this deal for them.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire CB Vontae Davis from the Dolphins

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Sunday 26 August 2012 at 10:41 pm

The Colts have acquired 24-year old CB Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins for a 2nd round pick in 2013 and a conditional late round pick in 2013.  Davis played in 12 games for the Dolphins last year and he had 43 tackles, 1 sack, 9 passes defensed, 4 interceptions and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 44 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 150 tackles, 9 interceptions (one returned for a TD), 32 passes defensed, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 2 forced fumbles.  Davis didn’t come cheap, but this was an outstanding deal for the Colts as Davis will team up with Jerraud Powers at CB in 2012, giving them a nice starting pair.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire CB Josh Gordy from the Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Wednesday 22 August 2012 at 2:22 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired 25-year old CB Josh Gordy from the Rams for a undisclosed draft pick.  Gordy played in 14 games for the Rams last year and he had 43 tackles, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 16 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 44 tackles, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  The Colts needed help at cornerback, so I like this move for them.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire LBs Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd from the Eagles

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Friday 3 August 2012 at 3:50 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired 26-year old LB Moise Fokou and 23-year old Greg Lloyd from the Eagles for 25-year old CB Kevin Thomas and a 7th round pick in 2013.  Fokou played in 11 games for the Eagles last year and he had 22 tackles, 2 tackles and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 43 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 112 tackles, 1 sack, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 4 passes defensed.  Greg Lloyd was a 7th round pick of the Eagles in 2011, but he didn’t play in any games last year.  Kevin Thomas played in 9 games as a rookie for the Colts last year and he had 33 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was a good deal for the Colts because they needed more depth at LB.

UPDATE:  (9/2/2012) – The Colts have waived Greg Lloyd.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire CB D.J. Johnson from the Eagles

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Monday 23 July 2012 at 12:54 pm

The Colts have acquired 26-year old CB D.J. Johnson from the Eagles for 25-year old DT Ollie Ogbu.  Johnson didn’t get into any games in the NFL last year.  He last played in 2010 with the New York Giants.  Johnson has played in 10 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 10 tackles.  Ollie Ogbu has not played in any games in his NFL career so far.  This kind of move proves that the Colts just aren’t happy with their corners right now.

UPDATE:  (9/2/2012) – The Colts have waived D.J. Johnson.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire CB/KR Cassius Vaughn from the Broncos

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 10:06 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired 24-year old CB/KR Cassius Vaughn from the Broncos for 25-year old fullback Chris Gronkowski.  Vaughn played in 9 games for the Broncos last year and he had 20 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception (he returned it for a TD), 1 fumble recovery and 1 tackle for a loss.  He also returned 7 kickoffs for 210 yards (30.0 avg) last season for the Broncos.  Vaughn has played in 22 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 28 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception (he returned it for a TD) and 3 fumble recoveries.  Vaughn has also returned 9 kickoffs for 335 yards (37.2 avg) with 1 TD return in his NFL career so far.  Vaughn will get a shot to compete for the kickoff return job in training camp as he is downright explosive.  The Colts also likely picked him up to give him a shot for some P.T. at corner in 2012 and beyond.  Chris Gronkowski played in 7 games for the Colts last year and he didn’t touch the ball.  He had 3 tackles last year for the Colts.  The Colts likely had a ski mask on when they made this deal.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire QB Drew Stanton from the Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Saturday 24 March 2012 at 5:05 pm

The Colts have acquired 27-year old QB Drew Stanton and a 7th round pick in 2012 from the Jets for a 6th round pick in 2012.  Stanton didn’t get into any games for the Lions last year.  He has played in 13 games (4 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has completed 104 of 187 passes (55.6%) for 1,158 yards with 5 TD passes and 9 INTs (63.1 QB Rating).  Stanton has also carried the ball 30 times for 166 yards (5.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Stanton is 2-2 (50%) as a starting QB in the NFL so far in his career.  Stanton will likely back up Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III (depending on who the Colts take with the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft) for the Colts in 2012.  The price was right, so I like this deal for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire OT Winston Justice from the Eagles

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Thursday 15 March 2012 at 2:38 am

The Colts have acquired 27-year old OT Winston Justice from the Eagles for a sixth round pick in 2012.  Justice played in 6 games (1 start) for the Eagles last year.  He has now played in 47 games (31 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  Justice is a big guy at 6’6″, 320 pounds which is the kind of offensive linemen that the Colts are looking for as they want to be more physical in the running game starting in 2012.  The price was right for Justice, so I like this move for the Colts.
