The Indianapolis Colts sign CB Antonio Cromartie to a 1-year deal.  Cromartie played in 15 games for the Jets last year and he had 29 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 12 passes defensed.  Cromartie has now played in 158 games in his first 10 years in the NFL and he has 402 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 31 interceptions (3 returned for a TD) and 114 passes defensed.  The Colts were lucky to find a guy like Cromartie still out of work.

The Indianapolis Colts lose CB Vontae Davis for a while

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by joelapinski on Tuesday 23 August 2016 at 1:36 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have lost 28-year old CB Vontae Davis for at least the first month of the 2016 season due to ligament damage in his ankle.  Davis played in 16 games for the Colts last year and he had 48 tackles, 4 interceptions and 16 passes defensed.  Davis has now played in 57 games in his first four years with the Colts and he has 187 tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 12 interceptions and 54 passes defensed.  This is a big blow to the D, as Davis is a pretty darn good CB.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Kendall Langford for a while

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by joelapinski on Tuesday 9 August 2016 at 8:39 pm

The Indianapolis Colts will be without 30-year old DE Kendall Langford for the next 3-4 weeks due to him getting a knee scope.  Langford played in 16 games in 2015 for the Colts (his first year with the team) and he had 38 tackles, 7 sacks and 3 passed defensed.  The Colts have their fingers crossed that Langford will be ready to go next month when the regular season opens.  With fellow DE Arthur Jones suspended for the first four games, the Colts will likely be on the hunt for DE help.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Arthur Jones for the first four games of the 2016 NFL season

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Tuesday 26 July 2016 at 6:27 pm

The Indianapolis Colts will be without 30-year old DE Arthur Jones for the first four games of the 2016 season due to him testing positive for PEDs.  Jones missed all of last year due to torn ligaments in his ankle.  He last played in the NFL in 2014, when he played in 9 games for the Colts in which he had 23 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  Jones has now played in 55 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 143 tackles, 10 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.  This will hurt the Colts’ depth on the D-Line in the first quarter of the 2016 season.

Undrafted rookie RB Josh Ferguson is making a good first impression for the Indianapolis Colts

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Saturday 2 July 2016 at 11:25 pm

The Indianapolis Colts wanted to draft running back Josh Ferguson, but they kept passing on him.  Then they signed the 5’11”, 200 pound running back out of Illinois right after the 2016 NFL Draft.  Ferguson played in 9 games for Illinois last year and he carried the ball 129 times for 708 yards (5.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also caught 37 passes for 280 yards (7.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs last year.  Ferguson played in 47 games in his five years with the Illini and he carried the ball 505 times for 2,586 yards (5.1 ypc) with 18 TD runs.  He also caught 168 passes for 1,507 yards (9.0 avg) with 8 TD grabs in college.  Ferguson could start a jaunt up the depth chart when training camp opens, as the Colts really have only journeyman type RBs behind Frank Gore.

The Indianapolis Colts have released 26-year old center Khaled Holmes.  Holmes played in 9 games (7 starts) for the Colts last year.  He played in 17 games (9 starts) in his three years with the Colts.  When the Colts drafted Ryan Kelly and Austin Blythe, Holmes had to know that he was on the way out.

The Indianapolis Colts claim QB Josh Woodrum off waivers from the Giants

The Indianapolis Colts have claimed QB Josh Woodrum off waivers from the New York Giants.  Woodrum is 6’3″, 231 pounds.  He played in 11 games for Liberty last year and he completed 242 of 390 passes (62.1%) for 2,772 yards with 12 TD passes and 4 INTs.  He played in 46 games in his four years in college and he completed 833 opf 1,304 passes (63.9%) for 10,266 yards with 61 TD passes and 30 INTs.  Woodrum will compete with Stephen Morris for the #3 QB job in training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts pick center Ryan Kelly in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by joelapinski on Friday 29 April 2016 at 5:30 pm

The Indianapolis Colts picked center Ryan Kelly with the #18 overall pick (1st round) of the 2016 NFL Draft.  Kelly is 6’4″, 298 pounds and he runs a 5.27 40.  Kelly made all the line calls for Alabama last year and he should start right away for the Colts.  He is a good run blocker, as he can hit a moving target at the second level.  He is also a pretty solid pass blocker.  Kelly played in 15 games (all starts) for Alabama last year.  He played in 46 games (35 starts) in his four years with the Crimson Tide.  The Colts probably preferred to draft an offensive tackle, but they were flying off the board early in the draft.  That being said, Kelly was a solid pick for them, as they need to do whatever they can to protect Andrew Luck better.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Robert Turbin

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Wednesday 16 March 2016 at 12:39 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have signed 26-year old RB Robert Turbin.  Turbin played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Browns and Cowboys last year in which he carried the ball 50 times for 199 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 7 passes for 23 yards (3.3 avg) last year.  Turbin has now played in 58 games (3 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 281 times for 1,127 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 50 passes for 450 yards (9.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far in his career.  Turbin adds a sledgehammer to the Colts’ backfield, as he is a big guy that runs hard.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Scott Tolzien

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Saturday 12 March 2016 at 12:46 am

The Indianapolis Colts have signed 28-year old QB Scott Tolzien to a 2-year deal.  Tolzien played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Packers last year and he was 1 for 1 passing (100%) for 4 yards (100%) with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs (83.3 QB Rating).  Tolzien also carried the ball 3 times for -3 yards (-1.0 ypc).  Tolzien has now played in 6 games (2 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has completed 56 of 91 passes (61.5%) for 721 yards with 1 TD pass and 5 INTs (67.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 8 times for 52 yards (6.5 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his career.  Tolzien is 0-1-1 as a starting QB so far in his career.  The Colts better hope Andrew Luck can stay healthy in 2016, because Tolzien isn’t too good.
