The Indianapolis Colts acquire Trent Richardson from the Browns

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by joelapinski on Thursday 19 September 2013 at 4:41 am

The Colts have acquired 22-year old RB Trent Richardson for their first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.  Richardson played in 2 games for the Browns this year in which he carried the ball 31 times for 105 yards (3.4 ypc) and he caught 7 passes for 51 yards (7.3 avg).  Richardson has now played in 17 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 298 times for 1,055 yards (3.5 ypc) with 11 TD runs.  He has also caught 58 passes for 418 yards (7.2 avg) with 1 TD grab so far in his NFL career.  Richardson will bump Ahmad Bradshaw to the bench when he’s comfortable with the plays.  He could start against the 49ers this weekend, if he picks up the offense quickly.  This was an outstanding move for the Colts, as Richardson will help them be a real threat to win the Super Bowl this year.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Dwayne Allen for the rest of the 2013 season

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports,Needs to Pick It Up by joelapinski on Wednesday 18 September 2013 at 6:12 pm

The Colts have lost 23-year old TE Dwayne Allen for the rest of the 2013 season due to hip surgery.  Allen played in 1 game for the Colts this year and he caught 1 pass for 20 yards and it went for a TD.  Allen has played in 17 games in his first two years with the Colts and he has caught 46 passes for 541 yards (11.8 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  24-year old Coby Fleener will need to step up now that he’s the main man at TE for the Colts in 2013.  Fleener has played in 2 games for the Colts so far this year and he has caught 5 passes for 76 yards (15.2 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Fleener has now played in 14 games in his first two years with the Colts and he has caught 31 passes for 357 yards (11.5 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Fleener was Andrew Luck’s teammate at Stanford, so they will likely be on the same page quite a bit in 2013.

The Indianapolis Colts deal OLB/DE Caesar Rayford to the Cowboys

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by joelapinski on Tuesday 3 September 2013 at 9:01 pm

The Colts have dealt 27-year old rookie OLB/DE Caesar Rayford to the Dallas Cowboys for a conditional late round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.  Rayford was a beast in the preseason as he had 5 sacks for the Colts.  I always like it when a team deals a guy they were going to cut for a draft pick.  This was a good move for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Justin Hickman for the 2013 season

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by joelapinski on Monday 12 August 2013 at 6:57 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have lost 28-year old LB Justin Hickman for the rest of the 2013 season due to a serious foot injury.  He was injured in the preseason opener (a 44-20 loss to the Bills) in which he played well as he had 5 tackles.  Hickman played in 12 games for the Colts last year in his first regular season taste of the NFL and he had 12 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss.  The Colts should be o.k. without Hickman, but this will hurt him as he was looking good this summer.

The NFL suspends TE Weslye Saunders of the Indianapolis Colts for the first 8 games of the 2013 season

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Friday 19 July 2013 at 2:03 am

24-year old TE Weslye Saunders of the Colts has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2013 season due to his second violation for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.  Saunders played in 11 games for the Colts last year and he caught 2 passes for 15 yards (7.5 avg).  He has now played in 27 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has caught 6 passes for 44 yards (7.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  His career could end before it really gets started if he doesn’t clean up his act in the near future.

UPDATE:  (7/25/2013) – The Colts have released Weslye Saunders.

LaVon Brazill of the Indianapolis Colts gets suspended for four games by the NFL

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Tuesday 25 June 2013 at 2:12 pm

24-year old WR LaVon Brazill has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season by the NFL due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.  Brazill played in 15 games as a rookie for the Colts last year and he caught 11 passes for 186 yards (16.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He caught 11 of 24 passes (45.8%) thrown in his direction last year and seven of his catches resulted in first downs.  Brazill also returned 2 punts for 12 yards (6.0 avg), 3 kickoffs for 50 yards (16.7 avg) and he had 4 tackles last year.  Brazill could lose his roster spot over this if the Colts think they can find a replacement out of the guys trying out in training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts sign RB Ahmad Bradshaw

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by joelapinski on Tuesday 11 June 2013 at 6:47 pm

The Colts have signed 27-year old RB Ahmad Bradshaw to a 1-year, $1.1 million dollar deal.  He played in 14 games for the Giants last year and he carried the ball 221 times for 1,015 yards (4.6 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also caught 23 passes for 245 yards (10.7 avg) for the Giants last year.  Bradshaw has now played in 84 games in his first six years in the NFL and he carried the ball 921 times for 4,232 yards (4.6 ypc) with 32 TD runs.  He has also caught 132 passes for 1,087 yards (8.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs so far in his career.  This was a steal for the Colts if Bradshaw is healthy, as he is by far the best running back on the roster right now.

The Indianapolis Colts picked RB Kerwynn Williams in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by joelapinski on Wednesday 15 May 2013 at 11:12 pm

The Colts selected 22-year old RB Kerwynn Williams out of Utah State with the 230th overall pick (7th round) of the 2013 NFL Draft.  Williams is 5’7″, 196 pounds and he runs a 4.45 40.  Williams runs hard for a player his size and he can break arm tackles.  He is fast enough to get to the corner and get downfield.  But, he’s not much of a pass blocker due to his size and he was only a 1-year starter at Utah State.  Williams played in 13 games (all starts) at Utah State last year and he carried the ball 218 times for 1,512 yards (6.9 ypc) with 15 TD runs and he also caught 45 passes for 697 yards (15.5 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Williams played in 49 games (18 starts) in his four years at Utah State and he carried the ball 382 times for 2,515 yards (6.6 ypc) with 22 TD runs.  He also caught 64 passes for 870 yards (13.6 avg) with 5 TD grabs in college.  Williams could be an outstanding 3rd down back in 2013 and he could return some kickoffs or punts.  Williams has the ability to have a much bigger role down the road for the Colts.  I really like this pick for them.

UPDATE:  (9/2/2013) – The Colts have signed Kerwynn Williams to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

The Indianapolis Colts picked safety John Boyett in the 6th round of the 2013 NFL Draft

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by joelapinski on Wednesday 15 May 2013 at 11:04 pm

The Colts selected 23-year old safety John Boyett out of Oregon with the 192nd overall pick (6th round) of the 2013 NFL Draft.  He is 5’9″, 205 pounds and he runs a 4.6 40.  Boyett is solid against the run and he plays faster than his timed speed on the field.  He has good ball skills, but he can’t handle covering NFL type WRs and TEs man to man.  Boyett played in 1 game (1 start) last year for Oregon (due to surgery on both knees) and he had 2 tackles and 1 interception.  Boyett played in 40 games (36 starts) in his four years in college and he had 278 tackles, 23 passes broken up and 10 interceptions.  Boyett will likely have to earn his P.T. on special teams before he gets a shot at playing any D for the Colts.

UPDATE:  (8/27/2013) – The Colts have placed John Boyett on the Injured Reserve List with a knee problem.

UPDATE II:  (9/3/2013) – The Colts have released John Boyett after an altercation with the police.

The Indianapolis Colts picked DT Montori Hughes in the 5th round of the 2013 NFL Draft

Blogged under Big Colts News,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by joelapinski on Wednesday 15 May 2013 at 10:59 pm

The Colts selected 23-year old DT Montori Hughes out of Tennessee-Martin with the 139th overall pick (5th round) of the 2013 NFL Draft.  Hughes is 6’4″, 322 pounds and he runs a 5.0 40.  Hughes is a big man that can push the pocket back towards the QB.  He is a good tackler and he is solid against the run.  But, he has issues off the field that led to him leaving Tennessee for Tennessee-Martin after two years.  It will also be interesting to see how Hughes handles the huge step up in competition in 2013 and beyond.  Hughes played in 11 games (all starts) at Tennessee-Martin last year and he had 42 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks and 1 batted ball.  Hughes played in 47 games (23 starts) at Tennessee and Tennessee-Martin in which he had 109 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 5 batted balls, 3 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.  This is a boom or bust pick for the Colts.
