The Indianapolis Colts sign OT George Foster

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 30 May 2012 at 12:36 pm

The Colts have signed 31-year old OT George Foster.  Foster last played in the NFL back in 2008 with the Detroit Lions.  Foster has played in 68 games (57 starts) in his first six  years in the NFL.  The Colts want to rebuild with tough guys and Foster fits the bill as long as he is healthy.

UPDATE:  (8/27/2012) – The Colts have placed George Foster on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a foot injury.

The Indianapolis Colts acquire CB/KR Cassius Vaughn from the Broncos

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Trades by admin on Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 10:06 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired 24-year old CB/KR Cassius Vaughn from the Broncos for 25-year old fullback Chris Gronkowski.  Vaughn played in 9 games for the Broncos last year and he had 20 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception (he returned it for a TD), 1 fumble recovery and 1 tackle for a loss.  He also returned 7 kickoffs for 210 yards (30.0 avg) last season for the Broncos.  Vaughn has played in 22 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 28 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception (he returned it for a TD) and 3 fumble recoveries.  Vaughn has also returned 9 kickoffs for 335 yards (37.2 avg) with 1 TD return in his NFL career so far.  Vaughn will get a shot to compete for the kickoff return job in training camp as he is downright explosive.  The Colts also likely picked him up to give him a shot for some P.T. at corner in 2012 and beyond.  Chris Gronkowski played in 7 games for the Colts last year and he didn’t touch the ball.  He had 3 tackles last year for the Colts.  The Colts likely had a ski mask on when they made this deal.

The Colts have released 25-year old TE Brody Eldridge.  Eldridge played in 13 games for the Colts last year and he caught 9 passes for 45 yards (5.0 avg).  He played in 27 games in his two years with the Colts and he caught 14 passes for 84 yards (6.0 avg).  The Colts won’t miss Eldridge as they used two high picks on TEs.

UPDATE:  Brody Eldridge was quickly claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Rams.

The Indianapolis Colts claimed RB Deji Karim off waivers

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 6:29 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have claimed 25-year old RB/KR Deji Karim off waivers from the Jaguars.  Karim played in 12 games for the Jaguars last year in which he carried the ball 63 times for 130 yards (2.1 ypc).  He also caught 14 passes for 120 yards (8.6 avg) last year.  Karim didn’t stop there though as he returned 27 kickoffs for 652 yards (24.1 avg) for the Jags last year.  Karim has now played in 23 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 98 times for 290 yards (3.0 ypc).  He also has caught 17 passes for 130 yards (7.6 avg) and he has returned 77 kickoffs for 1,900 yards (24.7 avg).  This was a good pickup for the Colts as Karim might be able to help them on offense and special teams in 2012.

The Indianapolis Colts picked QB Chandler Harnish in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 6:25 pm

The Indianapolis Colts selected QB Chandler Harnish out of Northern Illinois with the 253rd overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Harnish is 6’1″, 219 pounds and he runs a 4.75 40.  Harnish played mostly in the shotgun in college and he was very sharp on shorter passes.  The further he threw the ball down the field, the less effective he became.  Harnish played in 14 games (all starts) for Northern Illinois last year and he completed 237 of 384 passes (61.7%) for 3,216 yards with 28 TD passes and only 6 interceptions.  Harnish played in 47 games (45 starts) in his four years in college and he completed 687 of 1,110 passes (61.9%) for 8,944 yards with 68 TD passes and 26 INTs.  Harnish will be a nice developmental QB for the future for the Colts.  He will be #3 on the depth chart behind Andrew Luck and Drew Stanton in 2012.

UPDATE:  (10/17/2012) – The Colts have waived Chandler Harnish.

UPDATE II:  (1/8/2012) – The Colts have signed Chandler Harnish to a future/reserve contract.

The Indianapolis Colts picked DE/OLB Tim Fugger in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 6:20 pm

The Indianapolis Colts selected OLB/DE Tim Fugger out of Vanderbilit with the 214th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Fugger is 6’3″, 248 pounds and he runs a 4.63 40.  He gets by on being a guy whose motor runs hot all of the time.  He doesn’t have any standout skills but he really stepped up as a senior.  Fugger played in 13 games (all starts) for Vanderbilt last year and he had 33 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, 8 sacks, 4 batted balls and 3 forced fumbles.  Fugger played in 46 games (31 starts) in his four years in college and he had 90 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, 5 batted balls, 1 interception and 8 forced fumbles.  The Colts hope that Fugger will help them out on special teams in 2012, before getting a chance to play on D.

UPDATE:  (8/31/2012) – The Colts have waived Tim Fugger.

The Indianapolis Colts picked OT Justin Anderson in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 6:05 pm

The Indianapolis Colts selected OT Justin Anderson out of Georgia with the 208th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Anderson is a huge man at 6’4″, 339 pounds.  Anderson is a much better run blocker to this point in his career, as he has problems with speed rushers.  The Colts will try to get him to improve his footwork before he gets on the field to block for franchise QB Andrew Luck.  Anderson played in 14 games (all starts) last year for Georgia.  He played in 40 games (26 starts) in his four years for the Bulldogs.  This was a nice developmental pick for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts picked WR LaVon Brazill in the 6th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 5:59 pm

The Indianapolis Colts took WR LaVon Brazill out of Ohio U. with the 206th overall pick (6th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Brazill is on the small side at 5’11″, 191 pounds but he runs a very swift 4.49 40.  Brazill projects to be a slot receiver in the NFL.  He played in 14 games (10 starts) at Ohio U. last year and he caught 74 passes for 1,146 yards (15.5 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  Brazill played in 49 games (39 starts) in his five years in college and he caught 189 passes for 2,511 yards (13.3 avg) with 18 TD grabs.  He also returned 62 punts for 668 yards (10.8 avg) with 4 TD returns in college.  This was a good pick for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts picked NT Josh Chapman in the 5th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 May 2012 at 5:49 pm

The Indianapolis Colts selected NT Josh Chapman out of Alabama with the 136th overall pick (5th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Chapman is a big guy at 6’0″, 316 pounds.  Chapman is a run plugger who doesn’t make many plays in the opposing backfield.  Chapman tore his ACL on October 1st, but he played through it…earning him some stars for toughness.  Chapman played in 12 games (11 starts) at Alabama last year and he had 23 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 2 batted balls.  He played in 55 games (25 starts) in his four years at Alabama and he had 88 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 2 batted balls.  If healthy, Chapman could help the Colts on running downs.

UPDATE:  (8/26/2012) – The Colts have placed Josh Chapman on the reserve/PUP list, knocking him out for at least the first six games of the 2012 season as he is still rehabbing his ACL, which he tore last year in college.
